Iowa City has a rental radon-testing ordinance
Iowa City Municipal Code §17-5-18 requires radon testing for single-family and duplex rental units (owner-occupied homes are not covered). Testing must be done by a state-certified radon measurement specialist, and results are reported to the City. If a test comes back at or above 4.0 pCi/L, the code requires mitigation within 90 days. Units must be retested every 8 years — every 4 years if a bedroom is in the basement.
